One person was injured in an accident Wednesday morning involving a Des Moines police squad car, and an officer was injured trying to avoid a second accident.

It happened around 8:00 a.m. in Prospect Park.

Police say roads were icy, and a vehicle slid almost head-on into a squad car. While the officer was out of the vehicle talking with the driver of the car that slid into the police car, another vehicle slid on the ice. Trying to avoid the crash, the officer jumped onto the hood of  a car, but slid off and hit the ground. He suffered a minor back injury.

A passenger in the vehicle that hit the police car did go to the hospital for a minor injury.

No charges will be filed in the case.
