The storm is going to hit the metro just in time for the start of the individual state wrestling meet.  But for many wrestling fans, the weather may not be a big inconvenience.

The tournament will begin on Thursday and it’s usually safe to assume that big problems will follow a big event during poor weather conditions.  But remembering that most wrestling fans are already safely in the metro near to Wells Fargo Arena.

And for those who are staying close by, they might not even need to head outside.  Luckily the city of Des Moines thought ahead to these slushy situations and built the skyway system.

The Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel is the closest to the arena, only an eight minute walk time by the skyway.   The Marriott is a little farther with an 11-minute walk time from the arena.

And if you’re planning on eating on Court Avenue, that’s on the skyway route too and only a 12-minute walk away.

The skyway may take its lumps from time to time but this weekend it will transport thousands of passionate wrestling fans.  And some of those fans may not even step outside during the storm.
