The University of Iowa’s president has apologized for comments she made regarding sexual assault.

Sally Mason was recently quoted as saying, “The goal would be to end that, to never have another sexual assault. That`s probably not a realistic goal just given human nature, and that`s unfortunate.”

Tuesday she apologized saying, “I am sorry for the pain my words caused.”

Protesters had demanded the public apology from Mason. They also met with university officials about instituting a zero-tolerance sexual assault policy and updated warning e-mails for students.
