A Marshalltown man has been sentenced for his involvement in a bank robbery.

Twenty-three-year-old Abel Ramirez robbed the Lennox Employees Credit Union in November of 2012.

After the robbery, he and accomplice Ben Crisantos led officers on a chase. During the chase Crisantos allegedly shot at Officer Vern Jefferson, hitting him in the leg.

Thursday Ramirez was sentenced after accepting a plea deal. The judge ordered him to serve 25-year behind bars for first degree robbery.

Crisantos’ state proceedings are on hold while he undergoes testing for a mental disorder. His competency will be determined at a hearing on March 31st.
