Three law enforcement officers are among the Red Cross’s “Heroes of the Heartland.”

Jeremy Burdess, Adam Herman and Joe Bartello will be honored later this month.

The three jumped into action when semi-truck driver Dwayne Michael slid off Interstate-80 between Colfax and Newton and into a flooded creek last May.

The 70-year-old driver was trapped in 12 feet of water with a small pocket of air to breath.

The three officers pulled Michael out of his truck and to safety.

They will be honored along with six others on Friday, March 14th at the Hy-Vee Conference Center.
