One of Iowa’s longest serving lawmakers announced this will be his last legislative session.

Democratic Senator Dennis Black of Lynnville says he will leave his seat after 32 years at the Statehouse.

His district covers much of Jasper County and part of eastern Polk County.

In his retirement, Black says he hopes to finish writing his book on Iowa Medal of Honor recipients.

Former Newton Mayor Chaz Allen announced Monday he will run for Black’s seat in the fall.
