One week from today, crews will break ground on a $5.4-million project in Johnston.

The Terra Lake project will take an old retention lagoon and turn it into a lake.

The plan calls for an eight acres fishing area, a lawn for concerts and games and shelters.

Visitors will be able to paddle boat or kayak on the water and the park may become a trail head for cyclists.

“We have a space out here which is centrally located within Johnston that was getting minimal use and the decision was we wanted to take a look at what the community could use as a central hub for actives,” parks director John Schmitz said.

The idea for the park came about back in 2006. The goal is to have the entire project done by June, 2017.
