A judge has ruled an 18-year-old murder suspect is competent to stand trial.

Prosecutors charged Cody Metzker-Madsen, who was 17 at the time, with killing his five-year-old foster brother in Harrison County last August.

Two University of Iowa experts testified Wednesday that Metzker-Madsen is extremely immature, but said his “brain works very well.”

Metzker-Madsen has pleaded not guilty.

Dominic Elkins died from head injuries and drowning. His body was found at the bottom of a ravine north of Logan.

A trial date hasn’t been scheduled.
