The Waukee city council approved a plan Monday that will keep the name “Alice’s Road” on some street signs and to build a park to honor the street’s namesake.

Under the plan, “Alice’s Road” will keep its name from University Avenue heading north. South of University, the road will be renamed “Grand Prairie Parkway.”

The city also will build a new park along the road between Hickman and Douglas. It will be named “Alice Nizzi Park” in honor of the late restaurant owner whom the street is named for.

The three acre park will cost $400,000 to build. It could open as soon as 2017.
