Des Moines police are asking for your help in finding two women who dumped a dog at an apartment building on the city’s south side.

Police say two women pulled up to the Sunburst Apartments on Southwest 9th Street in a mini-van back on March 21st and abandoned a helpless dog there.

"Basically we get sent down there, patrol gets sent down there on a dog wondering around in the hallway of the apartments there," Sgt. Jason Halifax with the Des Moines Police Department said. "Animal control rolls down there, they find a small, mixed breed dog that's described as being skinny and scared but running loose inside the hallway."

The women could face animal abandonment charges if they’re caught, and that could lead to up to 30-days in jail and a $650.

The women could have avoided the charges by leaving the unwanted dog with the ARL.
