It’s already become one of Des Moines most anticipated events of the year, and on Thursday, the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival hit the big screen.

The Fleur Cinema rolled out a red bacon carpet for tonight’s premiere of “State of Bacon” a mockumentary about the making of Bacon Fest, an event that sold out its 12,000 tickets in a matter of minutes.

The bacon board says the film was “just something they wanted to try.”

“People think that it just happens. It doesn’t. It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of sweat, blood, beer and bacon grease to put on the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival,” board member Brooks Reynolds explained.

“State of Bacon” will play at The Fleur Cinema through next Thursday.
