State track starts Thursday and two Boone runners are trying to make history, again.

Chandler Austin is the 2013 1,600m state champion and Albert Meier is the 2013 state champ in the 3,200m.

The Boone duo have been running together since middle school.

"It’s good to have a partner in crime on the track with you," Chandler said.

As training partners they coined the nickname, “Cookies and Cream.”

"He's my best friend on and off the track," Albert said.

“Doing something by yourself is boring, running isn't the funnest thing to do but when you get a best friend with you it’s a great thing," Chandler added.

Any returning state champion wants to defend their state title and that’s where this story takes a turn. Chandler and Albert are defending their titles, from each other.

They got a one-two finish in both the 1,600m and 3,200m.

"There's competition we both want to win it but as long as we know it’s us we're still going to be happy for the other one," Chandler said.

The inseparable partnership on the track has turned in to a lifelong friendship.

"They wouldn’t be here without the other, they'd be very good but they're partnership has brought both of them to a higher level," coach Ben Tilus said.

"Last time on the Blue Oval, it’s going to be great that’s all I know," Chandler said tearing up.
