It was no ordinary day at school for some Des Moines elementary students.

Alex Baker and her mom Jennifer were among dozens of people donating their hair to Locks of Love Tuesday afternoon. They say they have thick hair, which is good for wigs.

Morris Elementary teachers team up to offer it each year.

The Bakers said they donate about every other year and this hair cut marks their third time.

“Alex really likes donating because about three to four months after we donate she gets a post card in the mail and most of the tine on the front of the postcard there’s a picture of a little girl wearing her wig. On the back of the postcard is a thank you note and she thinks that’s really cool,” Jennifer explained.

In all, nearly two dozen people donated their hair today at the school.
