An Iowa State Patrol veteran was recognized by the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute Thursday.

Lt. Randy Kunert received the Community Vision Award for his efforts to prepare others to serve their communities. Kunert works with students at the Institute on a reaction course that includes rappelling down a 40-foot tower.

“It`s an opportunity for the Iowa State Patrol to give back to the community through the Greater Des Moines Institute through the class that we provide to them so the honor`s really not for me it`s actually about the State Patrol and the team of guys that I take to the event,” says Kunert.

The institute also gave out awards for connecting with, inspiring, and challenging others.
