Services will be held later this week for a volunteer spotter that was killed during a race at the Iowa State Fair Speedway last week.

Midwest Racing Promotions says Richard Welch was standing inside the track during the stock car race when a car lost control and smashed into a nearby barrier.

The car flipped through the air and witnesses say debris hit Welch.

Paramedics took him to the hospital where he later died.

His visitation will be Thursday at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset on Thursday from 6:30 p.m. His funeral will be at the same place Friday morning at 10.
