Perry fire crews worked into the early morning hours of Friday trying to get control of a fire that burned the Whiton Feed and Milling Company.

Police were called to the scene at 1101 Otley Street just before 10:30 p.m.

When they arrived they found the business fully engulfed in flame.

Firefighters were not able to get into the building because the fire was too far along.

Fire Chief Chris Hinds says the building had some feed, vegetable oils and paper bags in it.

The company milled feed for farmers in a 60 mile radius.  It has been in the Whiton family since 1948.

Kurt Whiton remembers growing up and going to the mill. "My Dad, we would come here almost every Saturday to pick up some feed. My grandpa, I have memories of my grandpa here. It's tough to see it go."

Fire investigators will be on scene Friday morning to determine the cause of the fire.

The family says it's too early to know what their next step will be.

The business is a complete loss.
