Des Moines Police say a man found dead Sunday inside a local motel room may have been strangled by his girlfriend.  The woman later called 911. Just after 12 p.m. Sunday, neighbors heard a commotion coming from room 102 at the Royal Motel.

“My husband was utside. He heard the girl screaming, saying she couldn't wake her boyfriend up. He went over to try and wake him up and he was cold stiff,” said neighbor Debra Anzivino.

When police arrived, they confirmed that 36-year-old Jerry Brueggeman was already dead. “There were no major signs of trauma to his body. No, at least to my knowledge, cuts, stabs, gun shot wounds,” said Des Moines Police Sgt. Jason Halifax.

An autopsy will confirm cause of death, but authorities say Brueggeman killed by his girlfriend, 35-year-old Stephanie Moses. She is charged with First Degree Murder. Investigators say her story of what happened didn’t add up.

“Found a lot of what she said to be untrue. That was verified at surveillance videos at the hotel and some businesses she had been to,” says Halifax.

Police say Moses eventually admitted to “some involvement” in the murder. Moses is being held on a $500,000 bond at the Polk County Jail.
