The vote count after Tuesday's primary election. Bisignano's lead has since been increased by five.

The hotly contested race to replace Jack Hatch in the state senate came down to just 13 votes.

In Tuesday’s democratic primary in Iowa Senate District 17, Tony Bisignano received 1,438 votes, Nathan Blake received 1,425 votes and Ned Chiodo received 1001 votes.

The seat includes southeastern Des Moines.

Blake told the Des Moines Register he is holding onto some hope, pending potential absentee ballots that could arrive in the next two days. “Obviously it’s very close,” Blake said late Tuesday night. “We’re still waiting to see the final result.”
