The former Chief of Staff to Senator Charles Grassley was on the ground today, reaching out to voters downtown this afternoon.

David Young, a Republican from Van Meter is running for the nomination in the 3rd congressional district against five other candidates.

Young handed out flyers and spoke to last minute voters near the Central Library in downtown Des Moines.

After serving alongside Grassley for seven years, Young says having his name on the ballot on primary day provides a different feeling, but it’s an opportunity he’s ready for.

“I’m ready to serve on day one. I don’t need to learn the rules and procedures, or find out where different buildings are,” said Young.

A candidate must receive 35% of the vote tonight or the nomination will be awarded at the GOP Convention on June 14th in Des Moines.
