NEWTON, Iowa – The Newton Daily News announced Tuesday that it has hired a new editor.

Abigail Pelzer will join the newspaper next month. Pelzer replaces Bob Eschliman, who was fired last month after he referred to gays as “the enemy” and “Gaystapo” and accused homosexuals trying to reword the Bible to make their sinful nature “right with God”, on a personal blog.

“We’re very pleased to bring Abigail on board to lead the newsroom and share her talent with the community,” Publisher Dan Goetz said on the newspaper website.

Pelzer is currently managing editor of the Times-Republican in Marshalltown.
