DES MOINES, Iowa — Crews were called out to a fire in Des Moines after neighbors heard an explosion Tuesday.

The fire broke out around 10:20 p.m. at 1609 East 21st Street.

Firefighters arrived a few minutes later. They found a detached garage behind a house on fire. It took firefighter a few hours to extinguish the flames because there were several containers of gasoline in the garage.

Officials are still working to determine what started the fire but do say it began in an area near a woodburning stove.

No one was hurt in the fire.
