ALTOONA, Iowa — A man involved in an accident near Altoona Tuesday night is recovering in the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says around 10:00 p.m. a man driving a pick up truck was entering Interstate 80 westbound from Highway 65 at Exit 141 and crossed all lanes of traffic. His truck was then hit by a semi truck.

Paramedics took the pick up truck driver to the hospital by air ambulance. The driver of the semi truck was not injured.

Troopers say the man suffered serious injuries and has several broken bones, but his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating whether the driver of the pick up was impaired at the time of the accident.

The road was closed to both directions of travel for about four hours.
