DES MOINES, Iowa -- A lot of what the Iowa Senate Oversight Committee is investigating are items that have already been brought up. But Senate Democrats say they`re not stopping until they get answers to questions like who authorized the confidential payments. Committee members are also questioning why the number of state employees on the blacklist dramatically increased during the Branstad administration, especially for female employees at the Iowa Veterans Home.

Sen. Janet Petersen says this could be just the beginning of the oversight committee`s investigation.

“I’m hearing from various departments within state government beyond Department of Administrative Services. We`re seeing similar types of situations occurring and so you know we`re going to try and navigate it as carefully as possible to figure which areas need more oversight,” said Petersen.

Petersen would not say which departments have contacted her, but said she has spoken with employees from 13 different departments. Wednesday’s Oversight hearing starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Statehouse.
