AMES, Iowa – Repairs to waterslides at an Ames aquatic center are expected to take only a few days, but the slides will remain closed until that can be scheduled.

Three of the center’s slides were closed after cracks were discovered in structural supports during an inspection.

Officials say an engineer with the maker of the slides, Splashtacular, examined the damage Tuesday and says it was likely because the supports were not installed with proper drainage holes. The damage is thought to be from water building up in the beams and freezing and thawing over the winter.

Ames Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham is working with local experts to schedule the repairs. They should only take one or two days to finish.
