ANKENY, Iowa - 'On With Life' is expanding its services and celebrated with the public at a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday afternoon.
The not-for-profit organization assisting Iowans suffering from brain injury announced a $5 million expansion and renovation project that will provide a 10,000 square foot outpatient facility and additions to its current inpatient rehab facility.
"All of these years our families have asked us to expand our services so we could do out-patient services," said Julie Fidler Dixon, Executive Director at On With Life. "So you'd have to say this dream has been 20 years and coming."
In addition to the new outpatient facility, the project will add an indoor aquatic therapy pool and new multi-purpose space. The current out-patient building will be converted into a five-bedroom family housing facility. Fidler Dixon said the funding was made possible through a campaign the organization launched, and the backing they have received from the community.
"We are so grateful for the community's support," she said. "I think the community realizes and recognizes the unique role, and how important it is to have specialty services for people with brain injury."
Construction is set to begin this month, and the new facilities are expected to open in the summer of 2015.
