Hoover Shocks #1 East, Dowling Survives in 11 Innings

DES MOINES - The East Scarlets were one of the favorites to win the 4A state baseball tournament.

Scarlets were ranked #1 for much of the season in the Sports Spotlight rankings.

Friday night their dream season came to a crashing halt.  Hoover upset top ranked East in the first round of districts 8-3.  The Huskies used a 6 run 4th inning to put the game away.

Hoover advances to play West Des Moines Valley Monday night in the substate semifinals.


6th ranked Dowling needed 11 innings to get by Sioux City West 2-1.  Ben Olson pitched a gem, and also provided the walk-off game winning RBI in the 11th.

The Maroons advance and face the winner of Fort Dodge and Ames on Wednesday night in the substate final.
