Motorcyclist Hit Street Sign and Died

MADRID, Iowa–A motorcyclist died near Madrid after authorities say he lost control, went into a ditch and crashed into a street sign, according to Polk County authorities.

Polk County Sheriff Deputies say they got a call at 1:05a.m. Saturday concerning the incident at NW 158th Avenue and NW Madrid Drive.  The area is northwest of Big Creek and southwest of Madrid.

Emergency personnel found the man lying in a ditch next to his motorcycle. Investigators believe the man had been riding north on Northwest Madrid when he crashed. He died later at a Des Moines hospital, according to a news release.

Authorities said they were contacting family before publicly identifying the man.
