DES MOINES, Iowa — Officials with the Iowa Department of Corrections say an inmate at the Fort Des Moines Work Release Facility has been placed on escape status.

Twenty-six-year-old Abel Aguilar failed to return to the facility Wednesday after his job. Aguilar was serving a sentence of 25 years for convictions of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, first degree theft, and assault on a correctional employee. He was transferred to work release on May 1st.

Aguilar is a Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes. He is six-foot-tall and 200 pounds. He also has tattoos on both upper arms, left forearm, left knee, and left wrist.

If you have any information about Aguilar’s location you’re asked to contact your local law enforcement agency.
