FAYETTE COUNTY, Iowa — The mother of one of two girls abducted from an Evansdale lake in 2012 is headed to prison for a drug-related conviction.

Misty Morrissey was arrested in November following a lengthy drug investigation. This week she pleaded guilty to two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. She was sentenced to ten years in prison.

Morrissey is the mother of Lyric Cook.

Lyric, along with her cousin Elizabeth Collins, were abducted from Meyers Lake on July 13, 2012.  Their bodies were found at Seven Bridges Park in Bremer County five months later.

The case remains unsolved.

Always wondered if the cops would have focused on other things besides the parents a little earlier too.

First the father, Dan Morrissey was convicted of being a dope user and peddler, now the mother is convicted of being a dope user/peddler. It certainly makes one wonder if the situation would have been different if these folks had been decent parents who didn’t use and sell dope.
