WAVERLY,  Iowa -- Day five of RAGBRAI took riders from Mason City on a 65 mile journey to Waverly.

Thursday's route included some big hills including one the locals call the Breathless Hill.

Riders were cheered on coming up one of the biggest hills on Thursday's route. Among them was third-time RAGBRAI rider, 87-year-old Lavone Luther of Cedar Rapids.

Luther started participating in RAGBRAI when she was 85 and has done it ever since. Luther says she's been blessed with good health and loves to ride because it helps keep her young.

"I've really enjoyed it this is my third year, the first year I thought I could do it because it was from Cedar Rapids to Anamosa where we have a daughter, that was very hilly but I made it. So next year I thought I need to go again and we went from Oskaloosa to Fairfield and this is our day from the third year,” says Friday riders will leave Waverly and head the 67 miles to Independence.
