DES MOINES, Iowa -- Drivers saw some extra traffic on their way to work... in the sky. About 20 pilots flew their hot air balloons over Des Moines Wednesday. They’ve been doing this for 10 years to remind people of the Indianola’s National Balloon Classic.

The National Balloon Classic has been going on for decades, but this year officials have a new event called Dawn Patrol where pilots will launch their balloons at 5:15 a.m. right before the sun rises. The balloons will illuminate the sky on July 27, July 30, and August 2 (weather permitting). This like all morning launches is free.
