MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Iowa lawmakers don’t get accused of racing through their work at the statehouse. But House Speaker Kraig Paulsen, a Republican from Hiawatha, showed he can put the pedal to the metal. It turns out he can also take an old school bus on two wheels if he needs to do it.

Paulsen, according to the Republican Party of Iowa, took part in the Jackson County Fair’s “Night of Destruction” Sunday.

A release said, “Paulsen drove a diesel-fueled yellow school bus during the 10-lap, no-holds-barred race. In his first jump—a required move in the race—Paulsen teetered the bus on its two right tires, but he regained control.”

Paulsen got elected to the house in 2002.
