GRIMES, Iowa- The 12th Highway 141 Garage Sale is underway.  Thirteen communities along the central Iowa highway all come together with garage sales on the same two days, Friday and Saturday, in the first weekend in August.

"I'm kind of a treasure hunter, a bit of an entrepreneur," said Lynn Campbell of Grimes.  Her day job at Iowa State University promoting science, technology, Engineering and math education in Iowa.  "I really don't like things going to the landfill," said Campbell. "I will find some things, I will repurpose, and refurbish," she added.

Campbell is so passionate about making the old new, she has a store in Elkader in northeast Iowa where her parents live. She thinks the Highway 141 sale is a great thing for people not sure what they need. "People come from states all around Iowa, it's just a fun friendly atmosphere," said Campbell. The first hour she was open people began streaming in.

The stuff Campbell sells she finds on the curb at spring cleanup days around central Iowa. "It's amazing what a coat of paint will do for something," said Campbell.  "I don't get rich at this, I do okay," she added.  "You might be surprised at what you can find for free, and then sell it," she added.

Her down side is that her Grimes garage has so much stuff, it cannot house her car. "That's my goal, to get my car in there,"  Campbell joked.

Along with Grimes, the sale includes Manilla, Manning, Templeton, Coon Rapids, Bayard, Bagley, Jamaica, Dawson, Perry, Bouton, Woodward and Granger.
