Officials Release Name of Man Killed in Crash on I-80 in West Des Moines

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Police have released the names of the two people involved in a crash along Interstate 80 in West Des Moines Wednesday morning.

Authorities were called to the crash in the east bound lanes between the Jordan Creek Parkway and 60th Street exits in West Des Moines shortly after 8:40 a.m.

Police say the vehicle came off the road and traveled along the median, missing the cable barriers and drove head-on into an abutment of the pedestrian bridge near 60th Street.

The driver, Frederick Charles Ernest III, 59, of North Dakokta, was killed in the crash. Terry Alan Passmore, 62, of Pennsylvania, was taken to a Des Moines hospital. Passmore is expected to make a full recovery.

The accident remains under investigation.
