DES MOINES, Iowa – A little boy in Des Moines is raising money for heart research one glass of lemonade at a time.
“We need money for his heart to get better, we need money so the doctors can fix his heart and so he can get better,” says Tommy Kilts.
Kilts set up a lemonade and cookie stand to bring awareness to congenital heart defects. His 6-ear-old brother, Gavin, was born with a rare heart disease, leaving a hole in his heart.
Gavin has undergone three open-heart surgeries and is scheduled for more in the future. His earnings from the lemonade stand will go towards the American Heart Association. Gavin is also next years’ “Kid Ambassador” for the association’s Heart Walk.
