Theft Charge for Mom Accused of Faking Daughter’s Cancer

ATLANTIC, Iowa — An Atlantic mother police say faked her young daughter’s cancer is facing yet another charge.

Thirty-year-old Leatha Slauson is now charged with first degree theft. It’s the 20th charge against her.

Slauson is accused of pocketing donations intended to go towards her five-year-old daughter’s care. The Cass County attorney believes the money totals somewhere between $10,000 and $30,000.

Lauson is also accused of drugging her daughter with cannabis oil and a chemotherapy drug.

Slauson’s trial is currently set for November.

The girl’s is now being cared for by her father. Police say they don’t believe he was in on the scam and he was duped by his wife, just like the public.
