DES MOINES, Iowa -- The search for Des Moines’ next city manager is over.

Officials announced Wednesday morning that they’re promoting current assistant city manager Scott Sanders to replace Rick Clark.

“The Council knows and trusts Scott and his abilities. Scott has solid relationships with many of the key stakeholders that affect the quality of life in the city of Des Moines and Council is confident Scott will leverage those relationships to the betterment of the City and its citizens,” the announcement said.

City leaders interviewed four finalists in July but the person they were going to offer the job to withdrew from consideration. A second search began in late summer.

Larry Hulse has been working as interim city manager in the meantime.

A special meeting will be held Thursday to approve the former West Des Moines assistant city manager’s appointment.
