DES MOINES, Iowa — Unemployment rates went up in nearly half of U.S. states in August, but in Iowa, the rate remains unchanged at 4.5 percent.
That’s still down from this time last year by point-two percent, and considerably lower than the national rate of 6.1 percent.
“Iowa experienced gains in labor force, total employment, and nonfarm employment in August,” says IWD director Teresa Wahlert. “The state’s labor force participation rate also continued to trend up this month, as an increasing percentage of Iowans seek employment.”
Iowa Workforce Development released the new numbers Friday and says there are still 76,700 Iowans looking for work.
