PITTSBURGH, Pa – C.J. Beathard was the spark Iowa needed to jump start a stagnant offense.  Beathard led the Hawkeyes to 17 points in the second half, and a 24-20 win at Pittsburgh.

Starting quarterback Jake Rudock left with a knee injury at halftime.  Meanwhile, Beathard completed 7 of 8 passes for 98 yards.  One of Beathard’s passes was a 62-yard catch  by Damon Powell, Iowa’s longest play of the year.

When asked about his quarterbacks after the game, Kirk Ferentz told ESPN, “it’s a good thing to deal with, but we have faith in both guys.”

Why would anyone doubt Jake? He had 2 longballs that his recievers dropped. One was even flipped up in the air for the defense to pick off. Jake is a good QB. It’s nice to have this problem. We need to pick it up on the defense of the pass. That’s a Big problem for the Hawks!

Face it neither are gonna win much. Just luck the long ball was caught yesterday and Pitt didn’t score another td.

CJ has the intangible quality of acting as a catalyst that inspires his teammates to play up to their potential. Jake, unfortunately, does not.

Jake is a good Qb but beathard seems to give a boost to the team that Jake cannot and if it’s not broke don’t fix it. Cj has an obvious chemistry with the team even the defense played better just saying

I don’t think we’ve seen enough of Beathard to really give an accurate opinion. I recall a certain quarterback who played an awesome game at Ohio state when Stanzi went down. Turned out to be just an average qb.
