Autopsy Confirms Body Found in Iowa City That of Missing Iowa State Student

shao_tongIOWA CITY, Iowa – Officials have confirmed that a body found in a vehicle in Iowa City Friday evening is that of missing Iowa State University student Tong Shao.

Iowa City police officers located the vehicle believed to be associated with Tong Shao parked in the area of 2401 Highway 6 East in Iowa City Friday evening. During the investigation, a body was recovered from the trunk of the Toyota Camry.

The body was identified as 20-year-old Tong Shao. Shao, an Iowa State University student, had been reported missing on September 19.

Iowa City Police are calling the death “suspicious”. Officials are not releasing the cause of her death.

Xiangnan Li, 23, identified as her boyfriend, has been named a person of interest in the case. Li is a Chinese international student at the University of Iowa and investigators believe that Li has returned to China.
