DES MOINES, Iowa -- Nearly 400 Korean War veterans left Des Moines Tuesday morning for a one-day trip to Washington, D.C.

The men and women spent the day with fellow veterans visiting the nation's war memorials.

Family members, friends and other veterans met them at the airport to show them a proper send off.

“A lot of these veterans weren't honored when they came home or thanked so that's why it's important now,” says veteran Richard Holland.

Organizers hope to host another Honor Flight in the spring.
