WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Doughnut forget to pull over or slow down for emergency vehicles is the message from West Des Moines police.
The department published a public service video titled “Video of an officer nearly being struck by another vehicle! You must watch this!” to Facebook Wednesday.
The post has received hundreds of ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ but not for the reasons you’d expect.
Officials say no doughnuts were harmed in the making of the video, "because they're way too delicious" and joked the doughnut recruitment process was difficult.
Officer Scott Davis and Matt McCarty say their creativity comes from working in a close environment together.
"We come up with these things together all the time," says McCarty.
All jokes aside, the two say their video is meant as a reminder to drivers to change lanes when emergency personnel are on the side of the road.
"If there was a way everyone could do what we had to do and stand on the side of the road with traffic going by at 60 or 70 miles per hour, that’s not pleasant feeling. If everyone experienced that, they would move over move , says McCarty. "Officers are getting killed and firefighters are getting killed on the side of the road."
It’s not the first time the department has used humor on its social media profiles and the officers say they have more videos in the works.
