AMES, Iowa--Friends and faculty gathered at Iowa State University Friday evening to remember the life of Tong Shao.

The memorial service was organized by ISU’s Chinese Students and Scholars Association.

The association's President, Xilu Wang, says they held the memorial so all students at ISU had a place to come together and mourn.

“Tong Shao was part of the Chinese community. After we heard about what happened to her we felt very sorry, this wasn't only for international students but for all Iowa State students,” says Wang.

Shao was reported missing last month to Ames Police Department. After nearly three weeks, police found her body in the truck of a vehicle in Iowa City.

Authorities say they're treating Shao’s death as suspicious and investigating the case as a homicide.

Iowa City Police say they are not ready to release Shao's cause of death.

23 year old Xiangnan Li has been named as a person of interest in the case.

Li is a Chinese international student at the University of Iowa. Police believe he has returned to China but are working with the Chinese government to locate and speak with him.
