CLIVE, Iowa -- A specialized boutique in Clive is offering a discreet option for women striving to feel whole again.

Patricia Miller of Boone was 75-years-old when she got the news.

“I discovered breast cancer six years ago,” said Miller.

Doctors found cancer cells in only one breast but Miller opted for a double mastectomy and it's a good thing she did.

“As it turns out the other breast also had cancer in it which never showed in the mammograms, it was just beginning. So it was a very good choice to make,” said Miller.

Miller chose not to have reconstructive surgery and went six years wearing baggy tops until her daughter told her about the Women's Health Boutique, located inside the UnityPoint Home Store in Clive.

“We service ladies that have had any kind of breast surgery, reconstruction, breast cancer, mastectomy, and we try to fit them with bras and prosthesis anything to help make them feel whole again,” said Manager Amy Massey.

Massey says the boutique is more than just a place to for women to be fitted; it also serves as place to come to terms with your body post-surgery.

“Sometimes there is that realization, maybe the first time she`s been alone from family and friends, loved ones and she`s come to terms with it. Sometimes tears are shed but we`re there to be of comfort and help provide that calm atmosphere,” said Massey.

Miller was fitted for a bra and set of prosthesis and says the discreet at home setting made her feel comfortable.

“it was just like being shopping with my kids, one of my daughters, and having a good time and doing something that made me feel better about myself and look much better in my clothing,” Miller said.

Miller now feels more confident going out in public and said her only regret is waiting six years to do something about it. “I don`t care how long it`s been, if you`re not totally happy with the way things are fix it and this is a great place to fix it."

The Women’s Health Boutique also educates women on what items insurance will cover.

The boutique is located at 12695 University Avenue in Clive.

An open house is being held on October 21st from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for people to tour the boutique and ask questions.
