DES MOINES, Iowa — The cost of health insurance is going up for Wellmark customers.

Wednesday the Iowa Insurance Commissioner approved the double-digit increases. On average, rates will increase 14.5 percent for Blue Cross Blue Shield plans and 11.9 percent for Wellmark Health plans.

In its filing, Wellmark cites new requirements under the Affordable Care Act as one reason for the increases.

The new rates take effect January 1st.

All thanks to Obamacare. What a shocker!! … Anyone still favoring this unaffordable and overreaching mess is clearly a fool. Of course, there will be those who are so far to the political left, that as long as it’s being perpetrated by a heavy-handed liberal administration, it’s surely fine with them.

Using the Obamacare excuse is ridiculous…you know the muckey-mucks at Wellmark and Blue Cross will no doubt get raises out of this…and I wonder how much the Insurance commissioner will get paid under the table by the insurance companies involved.

Cheryl – What about the comments Obamaloser said about the average family saving $2500 per year?…thats right I hear the sound of crickets. This whole thing is a disaster and there are STILL 30 million folks without coverage.

Yeah, like healthcare would have never also risen without Obamacare. And by much more. And before ACA, our rates would have risen and those with pre-existing conditions would still have no insurance because Welmark would have rejected them. Now Welmark can not. ACA ie Obamacare reforms alone make it well worth the increase. Remember how IT USE to be? Duh.,

What’s clear is that Fiddlesticks has been fiddling something so long he/she is blind to what goes on. BC/BS or Wellmark raises it’s premiums every year…they were running out of excuses.

that makes my total increase since this passed to be 100% on a wellmark individual plan. please, do not make health care more ‘affordable’

How about “If you like your plan you can keep it”??? My plan will kick me off this January and I’ll have to choose an ACA plan at double the price. I can’t choose only the benefits I may actually use. I have to pay for all the other benefits OTHER people will use. Can anyone honestly tell me that’s not Socialism?

Don’t blame it all on Obamacare. Yes Obamacare is part of the problem but Iowa has the highest insurance rates in the country. Ever since insurance became mandatory in Iowa years ago the insurance companies have swooped in here like vultures and our gov’t has backed them 100%!
