DES MOINES, Iowa -- Parents, kids, and curious community members can see what it takes to serve nearly 20,000 students every day. For the first time ever Des Moines Public Schools is opening its kitchen to the public.
People can visit DMPS’s Central Nutrition Center Thursday 3-7 p.m. Visitors will learn what goes into the 40,000 pounds of taco meet and 7,200 gallons of mac and cheese. Visitors can also try a few menu items.
Executive chef Chad Taylor say he and his employees take a lot of pride in what they do, and they want to show parents the amount of care that goes into cooking their children’s meals.
