DES MOINES, Iowa -- Police have released the name of a man arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman to death in the office of a Des Moines Apartment complex.

It happened at 700 East Fifth Street Wednesday just after 3 p.m.. Police said the call came in as a fight in the office but by the time officers were dispatched, the call was upgraded to a stabbing.

Officials said the 54-year-old victim died of her injuries. Her identity is not being released at this time.

Authorities said the victim and the male suspect, 74-year-old Norman Wadsworth, knew each other.

“We don't know what…how it began or why it began, understand that the victim may be the manager here and the suspect is possibly a past resident,” said Sgt. Jason Halifax.

Wadsworth was taken into custody after police located him near the crime scene and noticed he had blood on him. Police say he will be charged with first degree murder and booked into the Polk County Jail after they finish interviewing him.
