Threat Made on Social Media Against Drake University Campus

DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake University Public Safety officials notified students and staff of a threat made on social media against the campus.

The alert, sent Thursday afternoon, said the threat was made on the social media platform "Yik Yak".

The alert stated:

"At about 12 noon today, Drake Public Safety was made aware of a digital threat to the safety and security of the campus community by a message posted on Yik Yak.  Drake University take these types of threats very seriously.  At this time we are asking students, faculty and staff to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Public Safety Office at 515-271-2222."

    Yik Yak is an app that lets you post comments anonymously to be seen within a certain radius (a few miles I think- I don’t use the app). The comments are made viewable to everyone in the area. It’s popular on college campuses because of this. This new age of digital communication has made making threats like these very easy and you could make them all day if you felt like it. I’m not saying it shouldn’t be taken seriously but…
