DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police say two men have been charged in connection with the death of an infant who died after he was run over by an SUV back in August.

Police say four-month-old Breland Garrett was in a child car seat in the driveway at 2523 E. Walnut on August 30 when an SUV rolled over him. Adults had been loading several children into the vehicle at the time of the accident. The child was transported to the hospital but died from his injuries.

The baby’s father, 26-year-old Brian Garrett, has been charged with child endangerment resulting in death. He’s being held on a $100,000 bond in the Polk County Jail.

The driver of the SUV, 33-year-old Deanthony Clark is facing charges of driving while barred and felony OWI. He’s also charged with five counts of neglect of a dependent. He’s being held in the Polk County Jail on a $57,000 bond.

A police report from the incident shows the driveway was littered with beer cans. It also stated the driver and another man had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and smelled strongly of alcohol.

At the time of the accident Sgt. Jason Halifax with Des Moines police said, “We don’t feel it was an intentional act on anyone’s party to strike the child or cause injuries or deaths.”

How is it that the one with the worse charge has less of a bond?? Felony OWI and only a 57K bond? Unreal. Why is there so much leniency for alcohol and drunk drivers, i just dont get it.

worthless POS’s! why is it creeps like this always seem to breed countless numbers of children? Why are women willing to procreate with drunk, worthless thugs? I don’t get it. And, if you don’t want to be thought of as a thug, don’t look and act like one!

I understand what you are saying but just cause you “look” like a thug, means your a thug? Nah ion believe it. I dress like a thug but work for a Fortune 500 company. Never judge a book by its cover. That’s all.

I apologize for the offense, Young Jeezy. When people don’t know you, your appearance and the way you carry yourself are all they have to judge you by.
I’m going to guess you would never, ever put your child in a situation where they were going to be run over by a car, either.

Now I know both these guys. Both have criminal records but the (white) girl that killed a man on e.university with her car and ran from the seen got released cause she felt remorseful. They say we equal, where? They that I’m crazy but I know I’m not crazy

I went to school with Brian and he was a real nice guy and a friend. This is a horrible accident and I feel so bad for all families involved. That being said, I feel it could have been avoided had he been making better choices. It’s just sad all around and this is something he will have to live with the rest of his life. I couldn’t even imagine the pain.
