DES MOINES, Iowa -- Four people were rescued from a pond at Water Works Park in Des Moines Friday afternoon.
A mother, two teens, and a toddler were inside the car when it rolled into the pond just after 2:30 p.m. Officials say the mother was parking the car but accidentally left it in gear.
All four were able to get out of the vehicle before it fully submerged. They stood on the roof of the vehicle until they were rescued.
The Des Moines Fire Department's wet team was called out but they didn't have to put any boats in the water to make the rescue. Officers with the Des Moines Police Department put on life jackets and swam out to the family, then brought them safely to shore.
